The ironic triumph of #Jane Jacobs’s essential insight: People want to live in cities, and when cities are safe people do.

A wonderful writer, @Adam Gopnik on a great thinker, #Jane Jacobs:  http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/09/26/jane-jacobs-street-smarts

“Politics is the planners, and exists as an afterthought to the natural order of cities. And it’s true: politics isn’t a self-organizing system. It’s not a ballet. It’s a battle. But it remains essential to reconcile goods, like free streets and fair housing, that will never reconcile themselves.”

And the better-educated urban residents are about their choices, the better our cities will be.
